LUCAS Akins has signed a new deal with Burton Albion that will keep the club’s top scorer for the last two seasons at the Pirelli Stadium for another two years.
Akins has played a major part in Albion’s rise from League Two to the Championship and manager Nigel Clough is delighted that he has re-signed.
Clough said: “It's great that Lucas has decided to stay with us for the next couple of seasons. He obviously attracted interest from other clubs, having played an important role in the back-to-back promotions as well as being the top scorer for the last two seasons.
“His ability to play in several positions will be a big help in the Championship."
With the players reporting back for training this week, Akins is looking forward to the forthcoming season.
He said: “I’m delighted to have committed to Burton Albion again - many good things have happened in my time here so far and I hope that can continue.
“We are lucky to have a manager with Championship experience so in that respect we are one step ahead.
"We are looking to come back now and get ready for the new season.
"It’s a chance to test yourself against better players. That’s what you want to do as a player and to be given that opportunity at a higher level, I’m very grateful to the Gaffer, the club and the chairman for doing that. Now I have to get my head down, work hard and do well.”
