ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

1 March 2016

Just the one change for Burton Albion to the team that picked up a point against Walsall. In comes Mark Duffy who returns from injury to replace Mason Bennett.

Jon McLaughlin helped the Brewers early on, just after five minutes in fact as Matt Done latched on to a Billy Sharp through-ball behind the Albion defence by the Burton stopper was so quick off his line to collect the ball milliseconds before the Sheffield striker.

Phil Edwards came to the rescue next as he was forced to clear a Billy Sharp header off the line from John Braydford's cross.

It was Burton that took the next chance, Calum Butcher teed up a shot from the edge of the box but George Long got down well to his left and palmed the ball away for a corner in which the Brewers failed to threaten.

In a half that Burton largely especially when Stuart Beavon's dipping shot from 25 yards beat Long in the home goal but it was just too high, it was a shame that they didn't have a goal to show for the dominant half.

HT: Sheffield United 0-0 Burton Albion

Both teams came out at the break unchanged.

GOAL: Juts four minutes into the second half it was the away side that took the lead through winger Lucas Akins! Damien McCrory threaded the ball through down the left before Akins took the ball and ran at the United defence before finding the far corner along the floor.

It was nearly a second for Lucas and Burton as a defensive mix-up between Collins and Long presented Beaovn with the ball who layed it off to Akins but Long got back in time to parry the inital shot then collect at the second attempt.

Sheffield United made a double sub just before the hour mark, Cuvelier was replaced by Calvert-Lewin whilst Coutts was replaced by Whiteman.

Mason Bennett was given the final 15 minutes of the match as he replaced Stuart Beavon in a like-for-like swap. He instantly made an impression as Edgar hacked Bennett down just seconds after coming on and received a yellow card.

Mark Duffy was replaced with five minutes to go by energetic midfielder Callum Reilly.

Shortly after the fourth official indicated there will be 6 minutes added time, Collins went close with a header but McLaughlin held well to his right.
