ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

8 March 2016

Two changes to the Burton side that drew 1-1 with Crewe Alexandra on Saturday. Back in the team were Tom Naylor and Stuart Beavon for Mason Bennett and Callum Reilly.

GOAL: Despite a quiet opening to the game, it was the home side that took the lead. Billy Clarke played Kyle Reid through down the left who advanced with the ball and lashed a left-footed shot past McLaughlin who was helpless in the Albion goal. 1-0

The Brewers had a great chance to level the game on the 20 minute mark as Beavon played an outside of the boot pass to Butcher on the edge who tried a shot which was blocked before Duffy tried his luck but Williams in the Bradford goal did well to deny the Albion winger.

GOAL: The home side doubled their lead just before the half hour mark. A quick free kick found it's way to Clarke on the edge of the box who curled a shot at goal which was parried by McLaughlin only into the path of Burke who made no mistake in slotting into the empty net. 2-0

Stuart Beavon was denied by Williams in the home goal once again as he tried a shot from a tight angle but the Bradford stopped did well to deny him.

It was a half in which Burton Albion just couldn't get going and the home side could, that's all that split the sides at the break.

Both teams emerged for the second half unchanged.

The Brewers looked more dangerous in the second half. Beavon was sent down the left by Weir before providing a great cross in to Butcher but his header crept just wide.

Captain John Mousinho got involved with the attacking play as he volleyed a terrific effort towards goal from 18 yards but his powerful shot whistled just wide of Williams' right-hand post.

Nigel Clough left it ten minutes into the second half before making his first change. It was Robbie Weir who made way for Hamza Choudhury in a like-for-like swap.

It looked to get a little worse for the Albion with ten minutes to go as Proctor's knock-down was handles in the area by Cansdell-Sherriff, penalty to Bradford. McMahon stepped up to take the penalty but he was denied by a brilliant Jon McLaughlin save low to his left!

Clough made a double change with 10 minutes to go. On came Flanagan and Bennett for Mousinho and Beavon respectively.

Despite a late succession of corners and a close header from Cansdell-Sherriff, the Brewers just couldn't find a way to hit the back of the Bradford net.
