ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

12 March 2016

NIGEL Clough makes one change to the team that lost 2-0 to Bradford City on Tuesday. Robbie Weir made way for Hamza Choudhury who made his full professional debut in the holding role.

Calum Butcher was in his stride playing further forward than he has done in recent games. Beavon brought the ball down on his chest about 20 yards out before playing it to Butcher on the edge of the box but his shot was rifled over the bar.

It was Burton who looked up for this game, chasing the ball down high up the pitch and not wasting time in getting the ball forward. Mousinho found himself down the right wing before pulling off a thunderous shot towards goal but Maxwell was equal to it as he held on well.

More pressure was piled on to Fleetwood town as McCrory fizzed a cross in from the left of which Beavon swung a leg at but he could only slice his effort which most certainly would have hit the back of the net had he connected cleanly.

GOAL: The pressure finally paid off! Akins' cross from the left went all the way through the other side to Butcher who helped the ball on to Duffy who cut on to his right foot and lashed it into Maxwell's top left corner, no chance of saving that! 1-0

It could have been a second just minutes later as McCrory picked out Naylor from the left hand side but his header rattled the crossbar from 12 yards and only found its way in to the stand.

HT: Burton Albion 1-0 Fleetwood Town

Fleetwood Town made a sub at half time. David Ball was replaced by Wes Burns.

GOAL: It only took the sub 2 minutes to make an impact. Bell ran down the left beating a few Albion men on the way before crossing over Mousinho and Cansdell-Sherriff to find Burns who makes no mistake in firing past McLaughlin down the middle who did get a hand to it but not enough to keep the ball out.

Burton responded well with some good attacking movements and a few shots at goal but couldn't seem to find the back of the net, until..

GOAL: WHAT A STUNNER! A Burton corner was cleared only to Choudhury who headed to McCrory on the left who helped the ball on to Duffy, the original corner taker, who cut inside on his right foot and curled an absolute beauty past Maxwell and into the left-hand corner!

OFF: One of the fastest red cards ever..Akins won the ball back from Grant who turned round and kicked Akins on the floor, he was shown a straight red card after being on the pitch for just a minute.

The first BAFC sub was made with 12 minutes to go. Calum Butcher made way for Robbie Weir.

Mason Bennett was the latest player to enter the field as he replaced Lucas Akins down the left.

Bennett made an immediate impact as he received a though-ball from Naylor and fizzed a cross in front of Maxwell who could only tip the ball wide for an Albion corner which was cleared well.

Fleetwood had a great chance with 2 minutes to go. Bell again providing the cross for Cole who headed over from 6 yards.
