BURTON Albion goalkeeper Stephen Bywater and Albion’s goalkeeper coach Martin Taylor have signed up to play in Shaun Barker’s testimonial game at the iPro Stadium next week.
Martin Taylor and Stephen Bywater have confirmed that they will feature for a Shaun Barker XI, which will go head-to-head with a current Derby County XI on Thursday 24th March (7pm kick-off).Taylor, now 49, joined Derby from Mile Oak Rovers in the mid-1980s and made 120 appearances for the club before leaving 1997 and had it not been for a double-leg break sustained later that calendar year, he would have racked up more appearances for the club. He went on to play over 200 games for Wycombe Wanderers after leaving Derby, before ending his career with spells at Barnsley, Telford United and Burton Albion. He has worked as a goalkeeping coach at Derby, Sheffield United and Burton since retiring professionally.
Bywater, 34, made 168 appearances for Derby between August 2006 and January 2012, helping the club to the Premier League in 2006/07, and played alongside Barker in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons. He has represented Rochdale, West Ham United, Wycombe Wanderers, Cardiff City (twice), Hull City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City, Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall, Gillingham, Doncaster Rovers and Kerala Blasters in India. Nigel Clough signed Bywater at Burton upon his return to England.
