CHARACTER NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE SQUAD

20 May 2016

AFTER sating yesterday that he had already begun his search for Championship players, Clough has added that he is looking for some character within his squad to carry on the success of recent seasons.

“That (Character) is what has got the club where they are in the past few years without a doubt,” said Clough.

“Battling against the odds and coming in to league one, everyone was saying if we can just survive but then we ended up with automatic promotion, that’s as much about character than anything else.

“We’ve got to carry that on and maintain that throughout the squad.”

Hamza Choudhury quickly made himself a fan’s favourite when he arrived at the Pirelli Stadium back in February. He made 13 appearances for the Brewers and played an integral part in the success and promotion to the Championship.

Clough said: “We’re hoping to have a chat with Leicester about him, I think he wants to come back which is another big plus.

“He did really really well when he was here so it’s a conversation we’re going to have with Leicester as soon as we can, as soon as they’ve stopped celebrating.

“They (Leicester) are very strong in the midfield area as well so he’s got to think if he wants to play under 21 football or do you come and join a Championship squad?

“I think Leicester are very good and realistic in thinking he’ll benefit playing league football.”
