NIGEL Clough is hoping to tie up new contracts with Damien McCrory and Lucas Akins as soon as possible.
Defender McCrory and top goal scorer Akins are out of contract but Clough hopes they will sign new deals. He said: "They had good seasons and will be good assets in the Championship.
“Nothing has been agreed yet but we have had preliminary talks and offers have been made. The good thing is that we want them to stay and both want to stay which is always a good starting point.”
Clough says that although he has not set a time limit for the players to sign he hopes to conclude the contract negotiations as soon as possible.
“We need to sit down in earnest with them. We have bandied a few figures around and we are not too far away. I don’t think they or we will want it to drag on too long.”
Clough says that no-one however is guaranteed a starting place next season.
“We know we want to improve next season and all the players who do stay know they will be fighting for places.”
