SKIPPER SAYS PLAYERS ARE READY FOR PROMOTION BATTLE

6 May 2016

JOHN Mousinho has called on the Brewers to get one more clean sheet this Sunday and to make history.

Albion go into the final game of the season with the best defensive record in the league and know that a clean sheet will guarantee promotion.

The skipper said: “We have to make sure we don’t just play for a clean sheet and a draw as that can be dangerous. We won’t be gung ho, we will just approach it like we have done in our most successful away games by making sure we are solid, tight and don’t take any  risks. If we do that we can build on the back of it and hopefully score.”

Mousinho knows there is still work to be done, even though the last gasp victory over Gillingham put the Brewers on the brink of promotion.

He said: “After the euphoria on Saturday, we got back in the dressing room and acknowledged the job wasn’t done and we fully expected Walsall to get the three points on Monday.

“But the win last week means we don’t have to have any other focus than ourselves. The Gillingham game kept it in our hands. The last minute winner gave us the two extra points which could be key.”

The skipper says the players are fully prepared for what they have to do.

He said: “I rarely have to say anything to this group of lads. From my experience with this squad, they are highly motivated so there’s nothing different to normal this week."

And what will it mean to the team to win promotion?

Mousinho said: “It would be an historic achievement for this club and for the players. No-one can take it away from us if we manage to do it. The chance to play in the Championship next season is massive and I know from speaking to everyone that they are relishing the opportunity.

“We will go out there 11 men against 11 men and we know what we need to do to get promoted.”
