PRESTON: ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

26 November 2016

Nigel Clough opted for a change of formation in hope that Burton Albion's luck would change on the road.

Damien McCrory and Tom Naylor returned to the starting XI in what lined up as a 4-4-1-1 formation at Deepdale.

The home side were lucky to be level so early on in the game as Ben Turner's header from Matty Palmer's corner rattled the crossbar on two minutes, before a reflex save from Chris Maxwell in the home goal denied Jackson Irvine just two minutes later.

GOAL: Continued Burton Albion pressure finally paid off after 23 minutes when Matty Palmer whipped in a corner which was half-cleared by Preston before Jackson Irvine swept home from eight yards out to end Burton Albion's goal drought (0-1).

The home side would have been level if it wasn't for their former player John Mousinho, who had to put in a last-ditch tackle to deny Hugill inside the six-yard area after Jon McLaughlin's parried save fell into their path.

Preston had another great opportunity four minutes before the half time break as Robinson raced through on goal but he was smartly denied by McLaughlin between the Albion sticks.

GOAL: With the last kick of the first half it was the home side that scored, as Callum Robinson bundled the ball over the line from close-range to make the scores level (1-1).

Half time: Preston North End 1-1 Burton Albion

Both sides emerged unchanged after the break.

Callum Robinson was the main danger for Preston, and he nearly got himself an assist when he drilled the ball across the face of goal aftersome neat play by the home side but, luckily for Burton, there wasn't a man in a white shirt there to tap it home.

Preston took confidence from their late equaliser in the first half, and they dominated the ball for most parts of the second half, but Burton did create a good opportunity when Christ O'Grady pinched the ball in the middle of the park before playing through Lloyd Dyer but his shot was well saved by Chris Maxwell.

Chris O'Grady was taken off the field with ten minutes to go, he was replaced by Marcus Harness.
