BENALI REACHES BURTON ALBION ON EPIC CHARITY MISSION

11 October 2016

FORMER Southampton footballer Francis Benali has dropped in to Burton Albion on his mammoth fundraising mission for Cancer Research UK.

Two years ago Benali ran from Newcastle to Southampton via all 20 Premier League grounds in three weeks, completing two marathons a day and raising £265,000.

Now he is running and cycling his way around 44 Premier League and Championship clubs covering 100 miles a day in just two weeks.

He started at Bournemouth on October 2 and will finish at Southampton on October 16.

Today he arrived at the Pirelli Stadium and was greeted by Brewers manager Nigel Clough and skipper John Mousinho.

Clough said: “It’s an incredible achievement for a brilliant cause and it was a pleasure to welcome Francis to the Pirelli Stadium.”

Benali said: “Hopefully what we are doing has captured people’s imaginations and money will come rolling in for what is a great cause. We have set a fund-raising target of a £1 million  so if people could generously donate that would be amazing as I don’t know my body has another challenge in it.”
