ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT - LEEDS

29 October 2016

BURTON Albion went down 2-0 at Elland Road thanks to a penalty and a late breakaway goal.

The Brewers made one change from the team that beat Birmingham - Lee Williamson coming in for Tom Naylor.

Albion might have scored after two minutes when from a corner Ben Turner's header was cleared off the line.

Albion threatened again when Ward's cross was bundled wide by O'Grady under pressure from the keeper.

Leeds then pushed forward and earned  two corners in a row with Roofe's shot from the second being blocked.

Hernandez burst clear on 14 mins but was tracked by McFadzean all the way and failed to get a shot away as McLaughlin came to meet him.

On 24 mins Sacko raced down the flank to the by line but his low cross was bundled clear by McLaughlin.

Leeds threatened again on 34 mins with Sacko's far post header going narrowly over.

A minute later Albion hit the bar as Palmer's free kick nearly reached Turner but Bartley under pressure got there first and came close to an own goal.

Half-time 0-0.

Beavon replaced Ward for the second half and was immediately in the action latching onto an O'Grady header but shooting wide.

On 50 mins a clever free kick by Albion created a golden opportunity. Beavon's cross was headed back across goal but an unmarked Turner missed from close range.

On 60 mins Leeds should have scored as Ayling put Roofe through only for the Leeds No 7 to shoot narrowly wide.

Roofe did better  five minutes later but McLaughlin held onto his sharp low drive.

Albion also pushed forward with a free kick followed by successive corners but a clear cut chance eluded them.

On 82 mins Doukara raced into the box but was tackled by Ben Turner but the ref judged it to be unfair and awarded what seemed a harsh penalty.

Wood gave McLaughlin no chance from the spot kick.

Albion pushed for the equaliser with Naylor snatching at a good shooting chance on 88 mins.

In injury time a Palmer free kick is blocked and after another attempt by Irvine Leeds broke the length of the pitch and Doukara slotted home
