SHAUN BARKER AND MATTY PALMER HEAD OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY

14 October 2016

Victoria Community School’s Year 6 class were excited to be visited by Burton Albion’s Shaun Barker and Matty Palmer as part of their Respect Burton Programme.

The programme is delivered by Burton Albion Community Trust and Burton Youth for Christ.

The topic of the day was Aspirations, as part of the lesson the children took part in a question and answer session with the players.

Wayne Chadfield, Respect Burton Coordinator, said: “The children really look forward to meeting the players. The question and answer session allows the children to understand the hard work that is required to be successful in any career, Matty and Shaun are role-models and an inspiration to the children.”

In addition to this session the children have also had a number of lessons on E-safety, Community Safety and Racial Awareness. The programme is delivered to Year 5 and 6 children in 8 local primary schools across Burton.

Keith Norris, Chair of Burton Breweries Charitable Trust who fund the programme, said: “We are very pleased to be able to fund the project that works with young people in disadvantaged areas of Burton. The project is having a significant impact on the future life opportunities by increasing the participant’s awareness of the challenges and
opportunities they face in modern society.”
