MANAGER'S VERDICT - BRIGHTON

17 September 2016

NIGEL Clough says that the Brewers need to stop conceding costly late goals.

After Albion went down 1-0 thanks to a late Brighton penalty the Brewers boss said: "It's frustrating the way we are throwing games away. To work as hard as we did to hold Brighton for 87 minutes, when they are the best team we have played, and then to give it away - that's the frustrating part.

"All we needed to do was see the game out to get a point. We had a couple of forays forward and might have nicked ones ourselves but we have to not throw it away.

"Their closing down, their overall play, was streets ahead of anything we have seen so far.

"We could have lost three or four nil with the quality Brighton have, the possession they had, but we didn't, we hung in there.

"There was an awful lot of heart and effort went in today on the back of the two away games - and we were so close (to a getting a draw).

"In these opening games we have given away too many points. We need to start learning and acting on it quickly."
