LUCAS AKINS: NO GAME CAN BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED

5 August 2017

Lucas Akins believes that Burton Albion cannot afford to take any games lightly this season, even in the early stages of the campaign.

The Brewers fell to a defeat to Neil Warnock's Cardiff City in their opening game of the season, with a late Kenneth Zohore goal taking all three points for the Bluebirds.

Akins, who started the game up-front, believes that the Brewers must not allow themselves to become complacent during the early part of the season, believing that points must be picked up sooner rather than later.

"Last season, we stayed up by a point so no game can be taken for granted, even at this stage of the season. You realise in any league that you play in, that is the case.

"It (the Cardiff defeat) definitely feels like a opportunity missed, you definitely prefer to get points on the board sooner rather than later and not be saying 'oh we have 44, 43 games left'.

"It is obviously better to try and get a bit of a run going and win as-soon-as-possible and I am sure that we will do that.

"We have got a few games coming up against Oldham, Hull and Middlesbrough, so the league is extremely difficult, but we will just do the best that we can."
