MANAGER'S VERDICT: CARDIFF

5 August 2017

NIGEL Clough thought a draw would have been a fair result but second half pressure from Cardiff ended with a late strike from Zohore that sealed the three points on the opening day of the season.

The Albion boss said: "I thought we missed our opportunity in the first half. We played well enough and had the situations to get a goal.

"We had a couple of brilliant opportunities and at this level you have to put one away.

"They came out in the second half and for a 15-minute spell it was like the Alamo.  But we dealt with all that and then it was a brilliant finish that beat us in the end. But that's what you get at this level when you are facing quality strikers.

"Overall, we dug in, got bodies in the way and I thought we defended very well today.

"They didn't create that much. Although they put a lot of crosses into the box we dealt with them brilliantly. The effort that has gone into the game again is typical and what we will give in the next 45 games."
