BUXTON SAYS BREWERS MUST BE READY TO GO AGAIN

14 August 2017

BURTON Albion defender Jake Buxton says the Brewers will put the 4-1 defeat at Hull behind them and focus on the trip to Middlesbrough tomorrow.

Buxton says: “We have to dust ourselves down. It’s a long season and we know where we are at and what we are up against and we will go again against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.”

The defender says the game couldn’t end too soon at Hull after a red card for Jackson Irvine swung the game decisively for the home side.

He said: “You can’t win football games playing with 10 men for 60 minutes. Jackson’s an honest lad and did great for the club last year but you can’t win games with 10 men – that’s a fact.

“The last 20 minutes we are really disappointed. You are playing an ex-Premier division side with a lot of quality players. They carried the ball well and we tried to soak up the pressure but at times it was wave after wave after wave. They moved the ball well and sucked us into pockets.

“They have good players but we are disappointed with our performance. The first half should have gone our way as we had them on the ropes at times and if it hadn’t been for the sending off we would have been more comfortable. We had to change the formation three or four times because of that.

“It was a little bit too much for us second half with being down to 10 men. I’m not one to hide behind refereeing decisions but there were a couple there that if they had gone our way we could have got our noses in front but it wasn’t to be.”
