MANAGER'S VERDICT: BIRMINGHAM

18 August 2017

NIGEL Clough hailed a "brilliant victory" as the Brewers came from behind to beat Birmingham 2-1.

The Albion boss said: "I thought we were a bit below par in the first half in terms of our usual tempo and intensity. But that was the hangover of losing the first three games,

"They came in at half-time and we got it sorted, got on the front foot. For the first 20 minutes of the  second half I think you saw what we were all about, especially at home.

"We have said to the players that when they play at that tempo, whoever the opposition is they will struggle to cope with it. Being here as well, under the lights, it's a good atmosphere. We love Friday nights here at the Pirelli

"It was important to get the three points, get off the mark and go forward with a different frame of mind."

The only downside for the Brewers was the injury to Matty Lund.

Clough said: "He might have a nasty ankle injury which will be another blow. The play had already stopped and the lad stepped over him and caught him, there was no intent there, but he couldn't walk off so that's not a good sign."
