CLOUGH WILL HAVE TO PLAY WAITING GAME ON TRANSFER TARGETS

29 December 2017

NIGEL CLOUGH will have to play a waiting game if he is to bring in his transfer targets during the January window.

The Brewers boss knows who he wants to add to his squad but isn’t expecting any movements before the FA Cup Third round fixtures are completed.

He said: “We have made contact with all the clubs who have players we are interested in but they all say the same, that they aren’t in a position to do anything immediately, so we will keep in touch during the first week in January.

“They all want the players for the FA Cup squads, and then there are replays, so it might be the middle of January.

“We have identified the targets. We have known them for a month or two and we are pushing for answers as if it is a 'no' you have to move on.

“We certainly need a striker or two, but it will depend on how many go out who we get in.”

Clough has admitted that Derby County will be his “first port of call”.

“With Gary Rowett being there we speak to him regularly anyway. They have a big squad and players who would improve us, and Gary has said if he can help us he will do.”
