"BURTON IS A HUGE SUCCESS STORY"

16 February 2017

ENGLAND boss Gareth Southgate has praised the running of Burton Albion Football Club, and says the recent rise is a huge success story.

Southgate visited the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday to open Burton Albion Community Trust’s new all-weather 3G football facility.

He said: “It’s incredible success and on the basis of a well-run football club.

“I think whenever I have been here the club have always been very clear on what they want to do and what’s achievable with the budgets they’ve got.

“They run it consistently and there’s stability at the club and when you get those things in place and there’s an agreement about what’s achievable then it gives you every chance of succeeding.

“Burton is a huge success story.”

The 46-year-old visited the new football facility for the first time on Tuesday, and has high praise for Burton Albion Community trust and the relationship between Burton Albion  and England.

“I think it’s commendable (3G pitch).

“We have a very good relationship with Burton in terms of our junior teams using the stadium and Burton train at St George’s Park a lot, so that connection is there.

“I think for any club, they are a figurehead for the community so to be at the forefront of helping provide and run facilities like this is crucial.

“In return I’m sure lots more people will feel and association with the club because they will be coming here and hopefully will be attracted to coming to watch the club play at some point as well.”
