MANAGER'S VERDICT: FULHAM

1 February 2017

NIGEL Clough thought Fulham's overall quality told as the Brewers went down 2-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Brewers boss said: "They were too good for us tonight. Saying that, their first goal was our mistake and you can't afford to make mistakes with the quality players they have got.

"They had a lot of possession without creating too much and we had a couple of situations ourselves and we were fairly solid until half time. We then said see how we go in the first five or ten minutes after that and maybe see about changing formations and two minutes after halftime we made a mistake and we are chasing the game.

"But they are a good all round side. Every single one of them can handle the ball and you see at close quarters just how good their first touch was and the running off the ball. Our lads have worked their socks off tonight - it was just a gulf in quality at times.

"The only thing we said to the players was that when we had the ball we weren't quite good enough and made uncharacteristic errors, giving simple balls away such as the first goal.

"Tom Flanagan was caught in the box but didn't go down and decided to stay on his feet. We don't get penalties because we don't go down and the referee doesn't have a decision to make. If you feel contact like that in the penalty area you are entitled to go down.

"We know we can still improve certain things but when teams like Fulham come and show that kind of quality that's a fact of life for Burton Albion in the Championship."
