THE Burton Albion Female Football Academy hosted its first open training session in preparation for the 2017-2018 Female Football Season.
The session was for young female footballers aged 15-17.
The event saw the participants put through their paces by Burton Albion Ladies coaches. The session included specific goalkeeper training and a fun but structured attacking and defending drill. The girls also received a presentation about the education courses on offer to them by James Endsor and James Carter, from Burton and South Derbyshire College.
The presentation included information about the programme of study, as well as the opportunities available, which included completing a Level 1 Coaching Badge in Football, work experience at Burton Albion Community Trust and opportunities to play at St George’s Park, home of the England national teams.
Aaron Savva, Burton Albion Community Trust’s Education Manager, said: “Today’s open event for the Female Football Academy has been fantastic. The talent on show during the session was brilliant to see.
“To see a group of young girls all working hard in a positive and competitive environment is exactly what we are about on this programme. It is a great opportunity for any female footballers aged 16-18 who are looking to improve their football skills and gain an excellent education at the same time.
“The Female Football Academy is an exciting programme for female football in the area. By combining the experience and vast knowledge of the Burton Albion Ladies coaches, the outstanding staff and resources at Burton and South Derbyshire College, alongside the fantastic facilities at the Pirelli Stadium, including the Burton Albion Community Football Centre, it will allow us to create a positive and competitive environment for talented female footballers.”
