AKINS LOOKING FORWARD TO WATFORD

6 January 2017

Brewers forward Lucas Akins is looking forward to testing himself against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup against Watford.

Speaking ahead of the match Akins said: “I love the FA Cup, I always have. Growing up as a kid I always enjoyed watching it and have played in some good ties against Premier League opposition in the past.

“Watford are an established Premier League side, people may overlook our rise through the leagues but we will embrace the tie. It will be another level up but it’s a test we will look forward to and the distraction from the league could be a positive thing.

“A cup run could actually provide us extra momentum in the league, we hope the fans are looking forward to it. We as a side are much now used to playing at bigger stadiums it’s becoming a bit of a norm so we won’t be overawed. Whatever happens we need to put in a positive performance so we go into the Wigan game prepared well”

With both teams struggling with a few injuries Akins doesn’t know what to expect from Watford but assumes they will put their strongest line-up out:

“We don’t know what team they will put out or ourselves, it might be a game where a few of the lads with knocks sit out and give others opportunities. We expect a strong Watford due to them struggling in the league, they won’t want to lose the match but whatever the team we will go to have a go and win the game and failing that secure a replay.”
