BEN TURNER FULL OF PRAISE FOR JACKSON IRVINE

18 January 2017

THE Brewers have gone three games without a goal in all competitions, although one of those games was against Premier League side Watford.

Despite conceding goals at an unusual rate in recent games, Ben Turner says the Brewers need to start hitting the back of the net on a more regular basis.

He said: “We need to concentrate better on winning challenges in our own box, and not only that we need to be ruthless. We need people to score goals.”

Jackson Irvine has been out with a groin injury since the Emirates FA Cup tie against Watford at the start of January and Turner says Irvine’s goals have been a big miss on the pitch. He has scored seven goals this season, making him top goal scorer for the Albion.

Ben Turner said: “We didn’t have Jackson last game and he’s our top scorer from attacking midfield and if you look at how he is in and around the box that emphasises the point, when he gets a chance he takes it.

“If he’s asked to do a job at the other end he will do a job and keep the ball out of the net.

“What does Jackson do different to some of the other players that we’ve got in the squad? He’s ruthless in the box, he takes his chance and puts his team 1-0 up.

“When we’ve had Jackson’s goals we’ve gone on to get our points this season"
