BURTON ALBION TRANSFER ROUND-UP

31 January 2017

IT'S been a busy January Transfer window for the Brewers with five new additions to the Albion squad, one extension of a loan, two returning to their parent clubs and a contract extension.

Striker Marvin Sordell was first through the door at the Pirelli Stadium when he was brought in till the end of the season after signing from Coventry City on January 1st.

Fellow striker Luke Varney joined the Brewers on a free transfer from Ipswich Town on an 18-month deal, unfortunately for Varney he picked up a nasty injury after puncturing his lung on his Brewers debut against Watford in the FA Cup.

Another day, another Luke, this time Luke Murphy was brought in by Nigel Clough from Leeds United until the end of the season on loan. Murphy got his first Brewers goal in the 2-1 win at Loftus Road last weekend after hitting a sweet 25-yard strike into the corner of the net.

Clough further strengthened his options by bringing in Fulham youngsters Cauley Woodrow and Lasse Vigen Christensen on loan. Both have joined the club till the end of the season and made their debuts against QPR last weekend. They have made over 50 appearances for Fulham combined, both aged just 22.

Youngster Will Miller had his loan extended until the end of the season from Tottenham Hotspur and will be looking to force his way back into the side after recovering from a recent hamstring problem.

Shaun Barker extend his contract with the Brewers. The 34-year-old has made four appearances for Nigel Clough’s man this season after recovering from a serious knee injury he sustained back in March 2012.

Tonight it was announced that Michael Kightly has joined the Brewers on loan from Burnley until the end of the season.

In terms of outgoings, forward Stuart Beavon left Albion to join Coventry City on a permanent transfer whilst midfielder Callum Reilly also joined the Sky Blues, however on loan till the end of the season.

Reserve team regulars Ryan Delaney, Marcus Dinanga and Charlie Gatter will all be out on loan until the summer. Delaney will gain first-team experience in the Irish Premier League with Cork City, Dinanga has extended his impressive loan spell at Matlock Town and Gatter has joined Boston United.

Midfielders Hamza Choudhury and Jamie Ward have both returned to their parent clubs in Leicester City and Nottingham Forest respectively.
