MURPHY READY FOR WIGAN TEST

12 January 2017

NEW midfield signing Luke Murphy is looking forward to facing Wigan Athletic which he described as a massive game for the club at this stage in the season.

Murphy who made his Brewers debut against Watford in the FA Cup as a second-half substitute said: “This Saturday is a massive game for us with them being below us we need to put down a marker. Games like these are important to pick up maximum points because in this league it is vital that you take points from teams around you. It helps you establish your position in the league. I believe this squad has a good mix of youth talent and experienced players and have no doubt we can finish much higher in the league.”

He also said he wasn’t sure how long it would take him to get up to speed having played mainly under 23s football for Leeds so far but if called upon against Wigan from the start he would give us all:

“You can play under 23 games but they aren’t the same, you don’t get the same feeling. I felt pre-season went well for me but I understood the reasons behind me not being involved and Garry Monk was very honest with me. This is a fresh start and one I am looking forward to. If the manager chooses me against Wigan I will be ready, I’ve not trained with the intensity level that I have in the last few days so it may take me a few weeks to get back up to full speed but if called upon I will be ready and give my all.”
