JOHN Mousinho has praised the new signings, as well as the youngsters who featured in last night’s 5-0 victory over Kidsgrove Athletic.

Academy products Ben Fox and Marcus Dinanga scored three goals between them, whilst new signing Matty Lund notched after just two minutes, and last season’s top scorer Jackson Irvine got his name on the score sheet too.

Mousinho said: “I though the lads did well, first half and second half we were brilliant. It was an opportunity for the new lads to come in and get used to the side and show what they are all about and I think they did that really well tonight.

“I think the youngsters did really well, the goals came from the young lands and Lundy as well. It’s just nice for them to open their account and get things going. Overall a really positive night and positive result as well.”

The Albion defender stressed the importance of using the pre-season games to build fitness, but come out injury free.

He said: “It was great. It was a lovely summer evening - nice pitch, nice ground and the opposition were at a decent level. I think they (Kidsgrove) have had a couple of tough games this week as well so it possibly makes it a bit easier for us. The most important thing about any pre-season game, especially the first one is just to get through it injury free. You have to get a feel for the ball and get back to the basics of the game and i think we achieved that so it’s really pleasing.

“You look forward to the games early on in the season and pre-season as well. It’s just lovely to get back out on the pitch and play in a competitive environment. We have put in a good week and half worth of work and now the games come thick and fast. Even though you only play 45 minutes it’s great to be out there on the grass and get a feel for the ball and the size of the pitch.”
