YOUNG BREWERS LOSE AT ROCESTER

24 July 2017

ROCESTER ran out 4-1 winners against a youthful Burton Albion side at Hillsfield, with goals coming from Oliver Roome, Callum Riddell and a brace from substitute Scott Wesson, with Kyle Clamp scoring for the Brewers.

The Romans started very strongly and opened the scoring after just three minutes when Roome turned the ball home from close-range after a corner had caused chaos in the penalty area.

The hosts doubled their lead in stunning fashion. Riddell got the ball onto his right-foot on the edge of the box and curled the ball into the top right-hand corner of Callum Hawkins’ goal.

Joe Brockley then forced a save out of Hawkins with a long-range free-kick that was heading just inside the near post.

Roome should have doubled his tally just after half-time when he found himself one-on-one with Hawkins, only to see his effort drift just passed the post.

Callum Riddell almost made it 3-0 with an attempted lob which landed on the roof of the net.

Wesson scored his first when he produced a smart finish from inside the box to make it 3-0. The substitute then scored his second just two minutes later, beating Hawkins with a well-placed shot.

Clamp reduced the deficit with 10 minutes to go, producing a smart first-time finish to beat an on-rushing Alex Langridge in the Rocester goal, but the goal didn’t affect the overall result.
