CLOUGH SAYS KEEPING SKIPPER AT CLUB WAS IMPORTANT

9 June 2017

NIGEL Clough says that it was important to secure the services of his captain for another season.

John Mousinho has signed a new one-year deal with the Brewers and that has delighted his manager.

Clough said: “He’s a good captain and a good leader and it’s important that he’s still at the club.

“He did incredibly well last season for his first year at that level. He’s not 23 or 24 so to hit it at 30 he did very well.

“The pace of the game at times surprised a lot of the lads and when you are playing the likes of Newcastle it’s not even really Championship quality players but Premiership players. But everyone will be better for that experience  - including John.

“He played more than 30 Championship games for us last season. He wasn’t guaranteed a start and might not be next season so he could have dropped down to League One and played 46 games or he could give it another go in the Championship. He says he wants to give it another go and we are really pleased with that and he will remain our club captain.”
