CLUB PROFILE: SHEFFIELD UNITED

14 June 2017

The Brewers are preparing for their second season in the Championship and they will be coming up against six new opponents during the 2017/18 campaign. In this series, we look at the new clubs that will be joining us in the Championship. Next, we look at Sheffield United.

Chris Wilder’s Blades romped to the League One title in the 2016/17 season, securing top-spot with a triple-figure points tally.

United finished the season on 100 points after a final-day victory over Chesterfield. Wilder, who previously achieved promotion during spells with Oxford United and Northampton Town, has won 32 of his 52 games in charge of the Bramall Lane club, with his side having gone on a 17-game unbeaten run between February and the end of the season.

If the side formerly managed by the Brewers own Nigel Clough are to survive in the Championship then they will be relying on the goals of striker Billy Sharp. The former Doncaster Rovers forward scored 30 goals in 46 league games last season.

United will also be boosted by the return of right-back John Brayford, who spent last season on loan with the Brewers.
