BUXTON REUNITES WITH FAMILIAR FACES

30 June 2017

IT was a wet and windy St George’s Park that met new signing Jake Buxton on the first day of training.

The defender re-joined the Brewers this week in time to report back for testing and fitness checks.

The weather was a disappointment but as Jake says: “It’s better than being unemployed which I have been for the last 10 days since leaving Wigan.

“I’m glad to be back, glad to get cracking on and it’s nice to see the lads in the dressing room and see what we are working with.

“I enjoyed the first day.  It’s as good as it gets.

“There is Stephen Warnock who I played with last year at Wigan and at Derby, John Mousinho who I know, Shaun Barker I used to pay with and I know Nick Fenton. It’s a dressing room full of experience and players who know what they are going to get from each other.

“Pre-season is a good time of year as there is no pressure from the games and, if the players are like me, they put themselves under immense pressure to perform in those games. Pre-season is a nice time to get as fit as you can, as strong as you can and enjoy the time.

“You get to know your team mates and, hopefully, when you are in the trenches together and you need a hand that comes from pre-season and bonding.”
