FOREST: ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

11 March 2017

Nigel Clough made two changes to the side that earned a draw at Hillsborough on Tuesday. In came in Cauley Woodrow and Luke Murphy to replace Luke Varney and Tom Naylor respectively.

The Brewers started the game the brightest of the two teams and Jackson Irvine nearly built on his goal that he scored on Tuesday as John Brayford crossed the ball in from the right which saw the Australian midfielder rise highest but his headed effort looped over the crossbar.

Ben Brereton has made his way though the youth ranks at the City Ground and has really lit up the place since his first-tram break-through. The youngster made up some ground on the left before pulling the ball back towards goal but the danger was eventually cleared by Luke Murphy.

Nigel Clough was dealt an injury blow almost 20 minutes into the game as Marvin Sordell went down off the ball and was forced to come off, he was replaced by Luke Varney.

GOAL: Cauley Woodrow has been a great addition to the Brewers since his loan arrival in January, and he loves playing at the Pirelli Stadium. He scored his third goal for the club 26 minutes into the game as he struck a free kick through the Forest wall and into the back of the net from 22 yards (1-0).

That goal added more fuel to the Burton Albion fire as Lasse Vigen Christensen received the ball in the box but with Forest players closing him down he had to take the shot quickly which looped over the crossbar.

Jackson Irvine picked up the man of the match award on Tuesday night against Sheffield Wednesday, partly because of his outstanding volley, and he nearly scored an equally good goal when he drove from the half way line with the ball before unleashing a vicious effort from 25 yards which was a touch too high to trouble Jordan Smith in the away goal.

Ross McCormack has scored one goal since his January arrival at Nottingham Forest but he tested the palms of Jon McLaughlin towards the latter stages of the first half when his curled shot from the edge of the box was parried by the Albion stopped before being collected at the second attempt.

Lucas Akins came on at half time as Luke Varney was the man to make way.

Nottingham Forest made a change during the early stages of the second half as Matty Cash replaced Michael Mancienne and the Forest youngster nearly had the scores level five minutes after coming on as he raced through on goal but John Brayford denied the midfielder at the last second as his sliding tackle pushed the ball away for a corner.

The away side didn't create much in terms of clear-cut chances so Danny Fox tried his luck from range but his left-footed effort whistled just wide of Jon McLaughlin's left-hand post.
