18-YEAR-OLD Joe Sbarra was named as Burton Albion’s ‘Scholar of the season’ at the end of season dinner on Tuesday night. The attacking midfielder signed his first professional contract back in October which will see him stay with the club until June 2018.
The youngster was full of praise for his academy coaches, but in particular the first team staff that have allowed him the opportunities this season.
Joe said: “I am really grateful for winning the award but a lot of the opportunities that I’ve been give are because of the coaches and first team staff that I’ve been working with and I can’t thank them enough for that.
“I’ve just got to keep working hard and hopefully a chance will come my way and I’ve got to take it.
“I’ve spoken to him (Nigel Clough) a couple of times but it’s just about working hard with the youth team and trying my hardest then if I get an opportunity with the first team I’ve just got to try my best and hope it comes off.”
