ON THIS DAY 1963

15 May 2017

ON this day in 1963 Burton Albion were 2-1 winners over Sittingbourne in the Southern League First Division.

A brace from Mick Raynor earned the Brewers three points in the penultimate league game in front of 550 supporters at The Bull Ground.

Those goals were Raynor’s 10th and 11th of the season and proved to be his last of the campaign as Burton Albion finished 15th in the division.

This was the only victory during May, with the Brewers losing their other four matches against Dover, Hinkley Athletic twice and Ramsgate respectively.

Raynor finished top goal scorer for the Albion that season (11), with Lindy Delaphena three goals behind on eight.

Margate topped this division at the end of the season, with Cheltenham Town and Dover all also finishing above the Brewers.
