DELANEY NAMED IN TEAM OF THE SEASON

8 November 2017

RYAN Delaney has been named in the League of Ireland team of the season after he played a key part in Cork City’s domestic double-winning campaign, while on loan from Burton Albion.

The defender was named in the team alongside his partner at centre-back, Alan Bennett, and Cork goalkeeper Mark McNulty.

Delaney was a key figure in the Cork side as they won their first league and cup double since 1951. He joined Cork on loan from the Brewers in January, with the deal being extended in June until the end of the Irish season.

Delaney chipped in with some important goals during Cork’s successful season, but it was his defensive qualities that stood out to RTE, who said:

“It was as a defender that he was key to Cork’s start in the league.

"They won 21 games out of 22 and he was a major part of that."

“His partnership (with Bennett) was very, very good, he learned as the season went on.”
