NIGEL Clough is looking forward to welcoming back young defender Ryan Delaney after a successful loan spell at Cork City.
The Brewers boss said: “I speak to their manager on a regular basis and he’s been delighted with how well he has done. He has a couple of weeks off now with not having had a break playing all over the summer and he will be back with us at the end of the month and then we will assess him in December training wise and see what’s next for him.
“But it has certainly done him good getting out playing and has helped his development."
Delaney has been named in the League of Ireland team of the season after he played a key part in Cork City’s domestic double-winning campaign.
Clough adds: “He was reluctant to go back at first as he thought people might think he has failed over here by going back but that wasn’t the case – it was the best option for him to play senior football at a good level and get some confidence.
“When he first came over he did really well and then dipped a little in form which is why we made the decision for him to go out on loan.
“There are players that come over from Ireland all the time. It’s a well developed route.
"There aren’t too man 6ft 3ins left centre halves/wingbacks so we are looking forward to having him back in training.”
