COMPETITION FOR MIDFIELD PLACES GIVES CLOUGH OPTIONS

10 November 2017

COMPETITION for midfield places means that Nigel Clough will have plenty of options when Sheffield United come to the Pirelli Stadium on November 17.

Matty Palmer came into the starting line up and impressed against Millwall and Matty Lund bagged a goal against Barnsley and looked threatening as the Brewers won 1-0 at the Den.

Clough said: “We will take a look at training leading up to the game and see who is in form as much as the games we have just had.

“Matty Palmer came in on Saturday, Jamie Allen was just outside after carrying a couple of niggles, so we have some good options there at the moment.

“Luke Murphy is as close as you can be to being guaranteed as he’s been as good as anyone this season but everyone else is fighting for it. We couldn’t even get Hope Akpan in the 18 for Millwall so we have plenty of options.”

Having got a first away win of the season, Clough now wants to end a run of defeats at the Pirelli Stadium.

“However it came, getting a win was very welcome but it was on the road and we need to start winning at home – that’s the priority now.”
