BURTON Albion boss Nigel Clough says goalkeeper Stephen Bywater has been ‘exemplary’ for the Brewers since he took the number one spot late last season.
The 36-year-old made six appearances last season and has gone on to make 12 appearances this season, playing every game in the Sky Bet Championship for Nigel Clough’s men.
“He’s been excellent,” said Clough. “He made one mistake with the second goal against Wolves last time and that’s since he came in the team against Birmingham at the end of last season. He’s made one mistake, he looks calm, his handling has been good.”
He said: “We’ve got a very good second choice in Connor Ripley who we brought in to play really, but Stephen (Bywater) has been so good that we can’t leave him out at the moment. Connor will get a game at some point throughout the season, but Stephen (Bywater) has been exemplary.”
