INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP

5 September 2017

BURTON Albion duo Matty Lund and Tom Flanagan were unused substitutes for Northern Ireland last night in their 2-0 win against Czech Republic.

Northern Ireland secured second place in their group after last night's win with goals from West Bromwich Albion duo Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt.

The Northern Irish have now won five games in a row for the first time and have two games remaining against Germany and Norway in October.

Germany currently lead the group on 24 points after beating Norway 6-0 last night, with the Irish five points behind. They have however secured at least second place which should see them make the play-offs for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The win should also help their them retain their FIFA world ranking, which decides the four highest-ranked second placed teams who will be kept apart in the play-offs.
