INJURY UPDATE: MANCHESTER UNITED

18 September 2017

THE Brewers will be without influential defender John Brayford for the Carabao Cup Third Round tie at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Brayford is cup tied having played for Sheffield United in the competition.

Will Miller has a hamstring injury but otherwise Nigel Clough has close to a full squad to choose from with Matty Palmer and Hope Akpan expected to be available again after injury to face Manchester United.

The Brewers manager said: “We have a few carrying knocks going into the game and as much as we are going to Old Trafford, we have QPR, Aston Villa and Wolves coming up which are more important for us.

“They will all want to play and will say they are fit but we will see how they are in training on Tuesday morning and will pick the squad from there.”

Clough watched United demolish Everton afternoon on Sunday.

He said: “Everton couldn’t get out of their half in the first ten minutes. We envisage something similar and hope we don’t concede and we could do without someone smacking it in from 25 yards like Valencia did. The important thing is not to make any mistakes and get out of our half if we can.

“We don’t know what side they will put out but even if no-one who started against Everton plays then you look at the bench and they have top quality players, internationals, who are more than capable of doing a job. We have to be at our very best just to try and compete with them and make it a game.

“We expect them to have the majority of the ball but I want us to go and play.

“We want every player to go and enjoy it, that’s the main thing,

“The full squad will come. We may never go to Old Trafford again so we want everyone to experience it.”
