MANAGER'S VERDICT: WOLVES

30 September 2017

NIGEL Clough says it has been a "horrible week" for the Brewers after back-to-back home defeats to Aston Villa and Wolves.

The Brewers boss said: "We were not good enough today. When you are 2-0 down after 11 minutes to a side with the quality they have got it's not game over but almost.

"We are too easy to score against. The first one today was too easy with the three centre halves and Stephen Bywater has made his first mistake of the season for the second.

"It's my responsibility and hopefully we will be more competitive in 13 days time.

"It wasn't down to formation today it was about basics such as the desire to keep the ball out of your net first and foremost and then everything goes from there.

"That desire was there at QPR and Norwich and at home to Fulham but when you concede eight goals in four days at home it's not there.

"We aren't giving ourseles a chance. When you are 3-0 down at half-time in two home games, you don't give yourselves an opportunity to get a goal as the opposition are comfortable and then teams like Wolves and Aston Villa have players who can hurt you on the break.

"It's back to basics, competing and keeping the ball out of your net. It might sound silly but we aren't too interested in scoring at the moment - we are interested in stopping leaking goals and from that we will get goals.

"We are below our target of a point a game and after these two homes games it has been a very poor week."
