ON THIS DAY | BREWERS SECURE PROMOTION AT MORECAMBE

18 April 2018

THREE years ago today, The Brewers secured automatic promotion from Sky Bet League Two with a fine 2-1 victory at Morecambe.

A brace from Lucas Akins - including one from the penalty spot - sent Albion on their way to securing a top three finish and a spot in League One for the very first time.

Damien McCrory had earlier missed a spot kick but Akins finished well on half-hour to put Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side ahead, before converting from the spot following a foul on Stuart Beavon.

That result ensured that Albion would not finish outside of the top three and secured a famous promotion.
