CLOUGH EXPECTS A QUIET DEADLINE DAY

9 August 2018

NIGEL Clough is not expecting any new signings on transfer deadline day but will wait to add to his squad in the loan market before the end of the month.

The transfer window for permanent deals closes at 5pm today but clubs can still bring in players on loan until the end of the month.

Clough said: “In the next three weeks before the loan window closes we will try and bring in one or two and one might go out. But we don’t want too many in terms of numbers as we want our young lads to have a  chance and they have earned it. In League One if they can shine, their careers will progress and we will all benefit.

“We have calls out but with loans people are hanging on until after the permanent window closes and maybe after the Carabao Cup games next week.

“We have asked about five or six as you cast your net wide and then it comes down to what sort of a deal we can do and who wants to come, and hopefully you get one or two from the five or six.”

Clough says there has been no real transfer interest in any members of his squad and hopes that continues to be the case today.

He said: “We have players like Liam Boyce and Lucas Akins who will always attract attention and one or two others, but I can’t see anything being significant enough to interest us.”
