ACADEMY VERDICT: MANSFIELD TOWN

13 August 2018

SAM Rose says that the Young Brewers need to improve after their 3-0 defeat to Mansfield Town under 18s.

The Brewers started the game strongly and had a few chances to take the lead before the hosts netted from a set-piece in the first-half. Mansfield doubled the lead before half-time and settled the game in the second-half.

Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Sam Rose said: “It is a disappointing result. The performance in the first half an hour was really encouraging and after that first 30 minutes I did not think I would be talking about us losing 3-0.

“Mansfield won the game in the final 15 minutes of the first-half. We conceded from the spare man at a set-piece, which is not acceptable from our point-of-view.  Some sloppy defending has given them the chance for the second goal and then we are chasing the game. We definitely put some pressure on Mansfield and we played on the front foot, that is a positive.

"We know we haven’t met our standards and we will improve because we have an honest group of players who want to achieve their potential. As always is with youth development, we are a work in progress but nobody enjoyed this result.’’
