CLOUGH TARGETS CARABAO CUP PROGRESS

13 August 2018

NIGEL Clough wants his team to make progress in the Carabao Cup and will play his best available team at Shrewsbury tomorrow night (7.45pm kick off).

Albion managed to beat Oldham and Cardiff (both away) last season before landing a plum tie away at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

Clough is hoping to get through and land another big match for the Brewers – but would love a home tie.

He said: “We will put our best team out at Shrewsbury. That’s the thing with the squad being pretty small; there won’t be too many changes in the cup competitions.

“We want to try and get through and win the game and then maybe, just maybe we might get a home draw. It’s been six on the bounce away in the two major cup competitions now, which is bizarre itself. The groundsman’s delighted as it looks after the pitch but everyone else likes a home draw.”

Damien McCrory (hamstring) and Scott Fraser (knee) both picked up injuries in the 3-1 defeat at Gillingham giving Clough selection worries. Jamie Allen missed the trip to Gillingham with a back problem.

Clough said: "The youngsters will play if necessary and David Templeton will start and Elliot Hodge comes into the picture after we put him on contract this week. We will shuffle it around and get them out there."
