AKINS WARY OF ‘CONFIDENT’ DONCASTER

17 August 2018

LUCAS Akins says that the Brewers will have to work hard to compete with the confidence of an unbeaten Doncaster Rovers side, but is backing the squad to pick up their first points of the season at the Pirelli Stadium tomorrow.

Grant McCann’s Rovers have won all three of their games in all competitions this season, and come into the game on the back of a victory over local rivals Scunthorpe United in the Carabao Cup.

Akins has been in similar positions with the Brewers during his career and is hoping to draw on that experience to combat the confidence that Doncaster will bring into the game, as Albion go in search of their first points of the campaign.

“It is still early days, we are only two games in but I am a firm believer in momentum having an effect on how people will do. Doncaster will be full of confidence but we are striving to get our first points on the board, so it is very important to do that sooner rather than later. That is what we will be looking to do at home.

“We have been in this situation a few times since I have been at the club and we know that when you are confident, it almost seems easy and you don’t have to think about it. This is where we have to be organised and to get us that win which will give us confidence. If we can put a foothold in the game and get a good start, hopefully the tables will turn in our favour.”
