REPORT: YOUNG BREWERS V OLDHAM ATHLETIC

17 August 2018

FIRST-half goals from Kyle Clamp, Nathan Morley and Emmanuel Shittu secured a first win of the season for the Young Brewers, as they beat Oldham Athletic 3-0 at St. George’s Park.

Despite a fast start from the Brewers, it was Oldham who had the first big chance. The home side’s defence was opened up and Callum Hawkins, making his first appearance of the season, produced a stunning fingertip save to keep the score at 0-0.

A minute later, Albion took the lead. A deep free-kick from the right hand side caused problems for the visitors and Kyle Clamp powered a header into the net for his second goal of the season.

James Melhado almost made it 2-0 when his deflected drive from the edge of the box forced a very good save out of the Oldham goalkeeper.

On 27 minutes, it was 2-0. Nathan Morley chased down a bouncing ball and beat the goalkeeper to it. The Albion youngster looped a header over the Oldham man and into an empty net.

Emmanuel Shittu made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time. Tom Armitage, who had threatened from the left all afternoon, got into the box and slid the ball across goal for Shittu to tap home his second goal of the campaign.

Shittu almost scored another early in the second-half when he drove at the Oldham defence and got into the box. He got one-on-one but put his shot straight at the goalkeeper.

James Melhado went close to adding a fourth late-on when he combined with substitute Noaman Mallass before shooting wide from inside the box.
