CLOUGH EXPECTS BRADFORD TO HAVE PROMOTION AMBITIONS

21 August 2018

NIGEL Clough says he expects a club as big as Bradford to be aiming for promotion back to the Championship.

The Brewers travel to Valley Parade this evening (kick off 7.45pm) looking for a third win on the spin but the Brewers manager knows it won’t be easy.

“When you look at the crowds and the size of the stadium it’s a big, big club with ambitions to get back in the Championship and even the Premier League where they were not so long ago

“They have one of  our former players in Hope Akpan, who did well for us last season, and we are looking forward to going there on the back of two victories.”

Damien McCrory, Will Miller and Jamie Allen all missed the win over Doncaster through injury and Joe Sbarra became the latest casualty coming off in the 1-0 victory on Saturday with an ankle problem.

Clough said: “With Joe it’s a freakish thing really and it’s just a case of how it settles down. There’s not many people get injured with the ball. It’s just an awkward angle on his ankle. And he was in too much discomfort to carry on.”

After wins at Shrewsbury and at home on Saturday Clough says that his team is still not at its best.

He said “We are nowhere near our best yet, we are still a few weeks and games away from that. This will come with the games. With a small squad they will have to play most of them and that will stand us in good stead.”
