THE League Managers Association’s five-man panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Burton Albion for their 0 – 1 victory over Middlesborough in the Carabao Cup Quarter Final on Tuesday 18th December.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Burton Albion Manager Nigel Clough received a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.
Clough said: “It’s very kind of LG and the LMA to give us this award. I think it was deserved for the manner of the performance and to get through to the semi-finals. We have had a tough old run of games in the Carabao Cup so I don’t think it’s a fluke when you beat three Championship sides and a Premier League side. To beat four teams of that quality it was well deserved.”
