MANAGER'S VERDICT: SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

1 January 2018

NIGEL Clough hailed the 3-0 away win at Sheffield Wednesday as a magnificent performance from all of his players.

The Brewers got the New Year off to a flying start with a third away win in a row and the Albion boss was delighted with the way his team took the game to the home side from start to finish.

He said: "The last five or six games have been wonderful performances but we are still light on the points we shoud have had. We should have had something against Leeds and should have beaten Norwich so although it has been a good return it could have been even better.

"We certainly deserved the three points today. The performance was right up there with Huddersfield away last year which will take some beating. We took advantage of Sheffield Wednesday's injury situation as they are missing a lot of players but the big difference today was that we were clinical and took our chances.

"Even when the third goal went in we didn't want to concede as the back five deserved it today and especially the goalkeper coming back to one of his old clubs. He got a punch on the ball, a catch, a save and helped relieve the pressure.

"We need everyone to play as they did today to even compete and to get results at this level. It was as good a team performance as we have had this season but I think it has been coming. With a liittle bit more quallity on the ball at Bolton and Reading it could have been this sort of result."
