CLOUGH PLAYS WAITING GAME ON TRANSFERS

3 January 2018

NIGEL Clough isn’t expecting any new signings before Saturday’s FA Cup Third Round trip to Birmingham.

The January transfer window is now open but Clough is in no hurry to complete his business.

He said: “We have had a few enquiries for our players, loans and permanent, which we are discussing at the moment. We will be talking to a few of our lads this week and then pursuing some enquiries we have got for players to come in. Nothing will happen before Saturday in terms of incoming and I wouldn’t think outgoing either at this stage.

“The ones we have tried to line up we have been told it will be after Saturday but more likely the middle of the month."

“For us it will be a balancing act but we have said that we have a better squad than we did at this time last season, it’s just the points return that hasn’t proved that yet but hopefully the last five games will go some way to supporting our argument."

Defender Ryan Delaney is eligible to play again for the Brewers but there are also clubs looking to take him back out on loan.

Clough said: “It’s very tough for anyone to get into our defence at the moment so we will see. We have had a couple of enquiries for Ryan so we will assess what’s best for him in the next couple of weeks.”
